We oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)

The TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) is a SECRET trade agreement which has been negotiated for more than 4 years with the Presidents of the U.S. and 11 other countries with “advisers” from 600 multinational corporations.
This trade-deal has been called NAFTA on steroids and threatens to undermine Democracy by giving corporations unprecedented legal power in nearly every area of our lives: food safety and labeling, environmental protections, jobs,
workers’ rights and protections, Internet freedom, prescription drugs and health care.

Congress will reconvene on Dec. 9, and the White House will try to force the TPP through before the end of the year.

On November 11, 2013 151 House Democrats sent a letter to President Obama opposing the fast-track authority and expressing that they were  “deeply troubled by the continued lack of adequate congressional consultation.”

On November 12, 2013 22 Republicans in the House of Representatives, many of them—such as Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN)—identified with the Tea Party, sent a  Letter announcing their opposition to giving the president Fast Track Trade Promotion Authority, which officially ended in 2007.

There are 18 Illinois members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 8 of whom have signed the letter (all Democrats).
